| Background Information: | The Hilliard Road Bridge was built in 1926. This bridge is found at the intersection of Hilliard Road and Riverside Drive over the Metroparks and Rocky River. The Hilliard Road bridge was designed by A.M. Felgate, who was the County Bridge Engineer. According to Sara Ruth Watson, the “most notable feature of this open-spandrel, ribbed-arch bridge is the pronounced batter of the piers” (Bridges of Metropolitan Cleveland). The bridge is 896 feet long and the roadway is 135 feet above the Rocky River. The Cuyahoga County Commissioners contracted with Howard, Needles, Tammen and Bergendoff in July of 1979 to rehabilitate the bridge. Source: Bridges of Metropolitan Cleveland. | |
