Bridges Type: | Concrete Arch |
| Years Existed: | 1910-1980 | |
| Background Information: | The Rocky River Bridge was built in 1910. When it was built, it was the world's longest concrete arch bridge. Up until it was demolished, this bridge remained the longest non-reinforced concrete bridge in America. It was 708 feet in length with the concrete arch span consisting of 280 feet of the total length. The bridge deck is about 95 feet above the Rocky River. It carried a 40 foot wide roadway and two eight foot side walks. Initially, this bridge carried a double-track interurban railway and two traffic lanes. Centered above each main arch rib are two chambers that were used for utility pipes and cables. A. M. Felgate (County Engineer) designed the bridge, Schillinger Brothers Company erected the bridge and Wilbur J. Watson designed the steel falsework used to support the concrete molds during construction.
