Background Information: The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Bridge #460 was built in 1906. It is a Scherzer Rolling Lift Bridge that has two tracks. The main lift span is 160 feet in length and the total length of the bridge is 205 feet. D.D. Carothers and J.E. Greiner supervised the work on this bridge from design plans from the Scherzer Rolling Lift Bridge Company. The bridge weighs 775 tons plus a 800-ton counterweight made of cast iron.
