Life and Death in the African Diaspora:
The African Diaspora
"The historical forces and events that gave rise to the populations of African-descended Americans constitute one of the most dramatic and complex developments in human history. The contact between Africa and the Americas has resulted in the emergence of a people, particularly in the United States of America, whose legacy has been a historic struggle for human rights, socioeconomic development and collective survival." (Floyd W. Hayes, III) The programs in the "Life and Death in the African Diaspora” series are part of an ongoing collaboration between Cleveland State University and John Carroll University. The purpose of this collaboration is to celebrate and promote the study of the humanities. The series highlights recent works on the histories and cultures of African-descended peoples and strategies used to ensure their collective survival on the continent of Africa and throughout the Diaspora.
